How do our boots & pad systems stack up against the competitors?
The Neurocare Home Calf High 364 coverage area is 2 ½ times more than most all of the podiatry boots on the market.
Most all light podiatry boots on the market, including our sister company Neurocare Systems, use the older “through-hole” diodes which have served our purpose well of delivering photobiomodulation into body tissue, though it’s time we shed light on a far newer and superior technology in the form of SMD (surface mounted diodes) used in the Neurocare Pro and Neurocare Home systems.
SMD’s offer several advantages over their “through-hole” counterparts, including their reduced size, multi-color frequency capabilities for each SMD, improved beam angle, and wider aperture, meaning less heat and more balanced light disbursement into the tissue.
With the older “through-hole “LEDs, you will find that they are accompanied by a lot of extra accouterments creating additional expense for the manufacturer, including the wire leads, as well as additional optical light diffusers. With an SMD, most of this extraneous material is surplus to requirements, leaving only the part of the LED that emits light remaining. The obvious advantage here is that SMDs can be made much smaller; usually between a quarter and a tenth of the size and weight of an equivalent through-hole component allowing Neurocare Pro to add size and increase power output to the LED pad and boot systems. Neurocare pro uses the large 5mm SMD’s that contribute to the substantial increase in power out-put. With the absence of a light diffuser also allows for an improved beam angle covering larger areas of tissue cells during a treatment session.
5mm “through Hole” diodes have an incredibly narrow distribution of light, mostly commonly 20–30-degree angles creating more heat because the epoxy casing acts as a focusing lens. This equals fewer cells receiving light during a session. A narrow spread of light may be beneficial in some purposes such as treatments that is being performed at long distances, but when we are considering photobiomodulation boots and pads, a narrow pin-point spread is not ideal. The “through holes” are closer to the narrow laser diode spread of light than SMD.
Another negative of the “through-hole” is that because they are only a single frequency, most manufacture’s alternate 850nm Near Infrared and 630nm Red every other row. This coupled with the narrow spread of the “through-hole” light creates significant coverage voids into the tissue. SMD’s on the other hand house multiple diodes in each chipset, allowing for a combination the 850nm Near Infrared and 630nm Red wavelengths being emitted from a single chip set casing.
This is beneficial over an entire pad or boot, because both 850nm and 630nm wavelengths are in each chipset and are evenly distributed throughout the entirety of the pad and are devoid of dead spots of the polychromatic light.
Also, with a light emitting angle of 120-degrees (versus 20-degrees on the older through hole diodes) the SMD’s offer a much larger spread of the light photons. The bigger the spread, the bigger the target area is exposed to beneficial photobiomodualtion light, which equates for a better treatment and thus, better results. SMD’s omit less heat and allows a higher power output and thus more joules entering the cells. In further contrast, the light from an SMD is very diffused, which makes them more suitable for medical applications that require a wide beam angle.
The SMD are flat and reset diodes. We took great care to make sure that we also deliver added comfort on our boot and pad systems for patients during use. Some manufacturers of the older technology will have you believe that their outdated “through hole” technology that features protruding diodes is by design so when these diodes stick into your patients’ tissue and bone, it is closer to the effected tissue and yields better results. LED PBM penetration studies strongly contradict these false claims. In fact, the number one complaint from patients is how uncomfortable these protruding diodes are, especially if they have edema or other tissue and or bone sensitivity.
Because peripheral neuropathy is a systemic neuropathic disease, most all experts agree that the more of the leg treated during a session is better, which is why the Neurocare Home Calf Hight 364 boots were designed to cover substantially more of the leg or arm than ever before. The Calf high 360 boots are so large, that you can use them as a body matt for other parts of your body that need care. These boots are also designed to be used on the arm and hands.
Other notable features: The Neurocare Home Calf High 364 boots and the lumbar 440 pad features wide build in straps, which makes placing the boots on your foot and leg much easier by our self and thus, delivering a smoother and faster set up.
The Neurocare Home 364 feature a plug on both the boot and on the controller. This will eliminate the wires pulling or of the circuit board.
Most all competitor products are hard wired into the PCB circuit board creating unnecessary defectives resulting from the wire being pulled away from the PCB board. This is not too common, but this of course depends on how the pad systems are being handled and if out of warranty, can shorten the life cycle of your boots and pads. The Neurocare Home pads and boot systems feature a single DC plug in systems for ease of use. Our new plug system eliminates the possibility of the wires separating from the circuit board.
